This resistance is bigger and more organized than any protests Native people have undertaken in many many years — thousands of supporters, including people from tribes all over North, South and Central America, have set up camp in Cannon Ball, North Dakota. Their peaceful actions have frequently been met with security forces armed with attack dogs and mace. The water protectors are being arrested and strip-searched in an effort to humiliate them and stop them from fighting. And the mainstream media is essentially ignoring this historic event. But we must all support this movement, because we all benefit from the sacrifices Native folks are making to protect and preserve water and land for future generations.
