Hon. Julian Bond (1940 – 2015) was an organizer in the Civil Rights movement, a member of the state of Georgia legislature and former chairperson of the NAACP.  Widely respected for his lifelong commitment to challenging the structures of racism, Bond was also the first president of the Southern Poverty Law Center. While a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, during the early 1960s, he helped to establish the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and served five years as the communications director of that pivotal movement organization. Mr. Bond was also a Distinguished Visiting Professor at American University in Washington, DC.
