Join us for TWO amazing events on HARDING DAY — May 19, in honor of Rosemarie and Vincent Harding, at the Iliff School of Theology.

  • In the morning, at 11am mountain time, Rachel Harding will be in conversation with poet Sonia Sanchez, theologian Ruby Sales and educators Raquel Guerrero and Nyle Fort about the significance for our time of Rosemarie Freeney Harding’s memoir, REMNANTS.  Profs. Sanchez and Sales will be sharing personal recollections of Rosemarie and Vincent and discussing the importance of spiritually- and community-grounded activism in this moment in our nation.  Profs. Guerrero and Fort will talk about the significance of the book in their lives as younger scholar/activists and the ways they have shared lessons from Remnants with students and others.     If you’d like to join us, in person or virtually for the morning program, please contact Caran Ware Joseph at cwarejoseph@iliff.edu

  • In the evening, we are celebrating the Harding legacy with music from the esteemed Spirituals Project choir and a lecture on the Underground Railroad by historian, Dr. Cheryl LaRouche.
⛏️ Dr. LaRoche began her career as an archaeological conservator, preserving artifacts from the African Burial Ground site in NYC.
She has worked for various cultural and historical institutions, including the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
She is an associate research professor in Historic Preservation at the University of Maryland and an ethnohistorian, collecting family stories from the descendants of people enslaved at National Park Service sites.
