Dear National Council of Elders Members and Washington, DC Launch Friends & Supporters,

Please accept my thanks and deep gratitude for all that you did individually and collectively to make our September 12, 2012 Washington, DC Launch of the Greensboro Declaration by the National Council of Elders the tremendous success that it was. Our Elders from New York and Detroit report equally successful events. Paraphrasing Sister Bernice, we released our names, our words, our hopes, our visions, our commitments into the air; so, we look forward to what evolves from our collective efforts.

Though brief, our time together was rich, beginning that morning as we greeted one another, old and new friends, as well as the many visitors to the King National Memorial Park, and ending that afternoon with a beautiful exchange at the Institute for Policy Studies. Each of us, along with friends from near and far, contributed to this multi-layered time together. The interaction with the Caravan for Peace was especially touching.

The intergenerational delegation from Beloved returned home safely late Wednesday night – ready to engage in the next level of work. However, we took some collective time during the ride back home and during the next day’s Staff Check-in to reflect on the significance of the multi-city Launch of the Greensboro Declaration.

Tim has posted pictures and some audio on our Beloved website. You can click on to get a little flavor of the DC event. For those of you who use the Internet Explorer search engine, however, your view will be limited. Explorer is experiencing a system-wide problem. For the best view, I suggest that you use FireFox, Safari, Google Chrome or some other Internet access. The Beloved website can be accessed at www.belovedcommunitycenter.org.

I have attached a page-by-page copy of the Greensboro Declaration in pdf format for those who wish to post it on your webpages or FaceBook pages.
