Mrs. Mildred Freeney Dozier (1919 – 2013) was a founding board member of The Veterans of Hope Project and a “veteran” of World War II as a part of the Women’s Army Corps. Mrs. Dozier was also the older sister of our late founder, Rosemarie Freeney Harding.  Mrs. Dozier grew up in southwest Georgia and Chicago. Like many others, she was moved to tears and action after attending the March on Washington in 1963.  Throughout the 1970s and 80s, Dozier was very active in school reform movements in Chicago, becoming the first African American president of the the citywide Parent Teachers Association and receiving a commendation for her work from then mayor, Harold Washington.
