Rev. Nelson Johnson was a leader in the African-American student movement of the late 1960s. A master organizer and community builder, Rev. Johnson has worked for many years on issues of homelessness, poverty and disenfranchisement in Greensboro, North Carolina and nationally. During the Black Consciousness movement of the 1970s, he co-founded Malcolm X Liberation University. Johnson is currently pastor of Greensboro’s Faith Community Church and executive director of The Beloved Community Center where, along with his wife, Joyce, he continues to advocate for the rights of poor people. Rev. Johnson was instrumental in helping to create the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Project.
